Discover the differences and similarities between traditional Eastern and Western art as well as the interconnection between both. Eastern art has inspired many Western artists including van Gogh, Cassatt, Kline and Morris Graves, and many others. Students will be encouraged to experiment with art making processes of both traditions. We will explore technical and aesthetic differences including philosophy, mediums, and the power of suggestion, to name a few. Bring the quiet space, layering of pen, brush, and ink, and spatial perspective of Eastern art into your work. You can work in the medium of your choice (acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, fabric, drawing mediums). The class includes group and individual critiques, PowerPoint presentations and studio time. Demonstrations will be based on students’ interests.
