Born in Philadelphia in 1937, William Henry “Bill” Cosby, Jr. earned his BA in 1971 at Temple University and his MA and PhD in education in 1976 at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Here Mosley shows Cosby as a young track star at Temple University, preparing to throw a javelin. The line of the javelin defines a strong diagonal in the composition. Cosby would become a beloved and successful comedian and actor, although he has more recently been the subject of controversy, facing allegations of sexual misconduct.
