Married in St. Louis, MO, in 1899, the Wassermans settled in Philadelphia, where Joseph headed a rug manufactory, Artloom Corporation. Three years later they moved into their new home, also in Philadelphia, at Wissahickon Avenue near W. Hortter Street. It was built by the noted architect Horace Trumbauer
