Horace Sweeney Oakley (1861-1929) was a Chicago lawyer, scholar and philanthropist. His lectures on the need for a league to enforce peace brought Oakley to the attention of President Woodrow Wilson and an appointment to one of the President’s peace committees. In 1918, Oakley resigned from this committee to join the American Red Cross Commission to Greece.
