Discover the endless possibilities and unique qualities of the monotype process, an image that combines painting, drawing and printmaking techniques. It was a favorite way of making art for Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt and Gauguin as it offers a spontaneous way of working and the freedom to explore and experiment with images and a wide selection of materials. A painting is developed on a flat plate with oil or water based inks, paints, crayons and/or pencils and then transferred to paper or other absorbent surfaces. We will explore printing by hand and with an etching press. The instructor will provide oil and water based inks, plates and paper.
