With Bluejay, Storyteller and Chief of Culture, Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania
Enjoy an afternoon listening to Lenape Stories and playing traditional Lenape games such as Jackstraws (Pick Up Sticks), Dice Game (Mamantickan) and more. Children will learn to make their own hoop stick to play the game of Hoop and Stick. Bluejay will lead everyone in Friendship and Snake Dances.
Bluejay, aka Barbara Michalski, was given the name by her grandfather, Bill Thompson, late Chief Whippoorwill of the Unalachtigo (people near the ocean) Tribe of the Turkey Clan. As a member of Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania (LNPA), Bluejay serves on the Tribal Council. is the Tribal Secretary, and one of the Storytellers of the Nation. Recently has been appointed Chief of Culture. She has been participating in educating the public by attending events or festivals in the Lenapehoking (Homeland of the Lenape). But most of all, Bluejay loves to teach children the history of the Lenape Nation through crafts, storytelling, and artifacts while visiting numerous area schools and children’s groups. She also provides programs for the Elderly in senior housing. Bluejay has also been involved in environmental issues, particularly working for clean water and protecting our Earth Mother.
