Rembrandt Peale's portrait of Henrietta Teackle and Thomas Sully's portrait of Esther Maria Fisher Teackle, are on exhibit in Woodmere's historic galleries. Painted in 1805 and 1810 respectively, they reveal stylish women who, to use a modern fashion phrase, are “on trend” regarding their dress, accessories, and hairstyles. Their chic looks epitomize the era’s styles which drew heavily on classical Greek and Roman art and architecture. This talk will focus on the painted details to illuminate the fashions of the period while also revealing the broader significance of their dress.
The program is offered online through Zoom and pre-registration is required. Registrants will receive a confirmation email with the meeting link.
