Discover the endless possibilities and unique qualities of the monotype process, an image that combines painting, drawing and printmaking techniques. It was a favorite way of making art for Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt and Gauguin as it offers a spontaneous way of working and the freedom to explore and experiment with images and a wide selection of materials. A painting is developed on a flat plate with oil or water based inks, paints, crayons and/or pencils and then transferred to paper or other absorbent surfaces.
