The Verbal Art of Jane Rohrer (Virtual)

05/11/22
7:00 pm
8:30 pm
Online via Zoom

Lecturer: Ann Hostetler, professor of English, Goshen College

Poet and scholar Ann Hostetler will read and discuss a selection of Jane Rohrer's poems in the context of her husband Warren's paintings. Jane's poems reveal her acute observational ability, sense of irony, and penchant for moments of rupture in the life she and Warren created together--drawing on Mennonite roots and informed by contemporary art and poetry. The poems are not odes to or descriptions of Warren's art, but rather artistically crafted verbal paintings in their own right. As companion pieces, they open a fresh dimension from which to view the paintings, highlighting the qualities of language as a verbal art.
