Syd carpenter, juror
Syd Carpenter invites artists and craftspeople to submit work in all media that references the land, the transience of the body, and the skill of the maker. The exhibition will include work curated from the museum’s collection as well as work by Carpenter.
The exhibition will feature works in a wide variety of media from artists living within 50 miles of the Museum.

About the Juror
Syd Carpenter is a ceramics and mixed media sculptor who is currently a professor of studio art at Swarthmore College. Her work is included in the collections of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the James A. Michener Art Museum, Fuller Craft Museum, Tang Museum of Skidmore College, and the Pennsylvania Convention Center. She is a recipient of a Pew Fellowship in the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts fellowships, Leeway Fellowship, and Leeway Arts and Change grant. Her artist residencies include the Haystack Mountain School, Penland School of Crafts, Brandywine Graphics Workshop, Anderson Ranch, North Country Studio Workshops at Bennington College and Hollins University Women in Clay Symposium. Her studio and home are in Philadelphia.
Submissions must be made online at woodmereartmuseum.slideroom.com
and formatted as a JPEG, GIF, PNG, MP3, MP4, or MOV file. Artists may submit up to FIVE
artworks for consideration. Each artwork should be represented with one image only (two views if the artwork is three dimensional*) or in video format for animation, film, or other time-based media.
*Multiple views can be combined split-screen style into one image.
Deadline for submissions is March 25, 2018.
Entries sent via email or by mail will NOT be considered.
Images should be formatted so that the orientation of the work is clear. Full, accurate information for each submission must be supplied.

March 3 – March 25, 2018 Accepted Work/Notification
Artists will be notified of the juror's selections by April 9, 2018. Woodmere may retain images of accepted works for the duration of the exhibition for publicity and archival purposes.
Accepted works must be accompanied by a high-resolution digital image (jpg, 300 dpi, 5 x 7 in. minimum) for the digital exhibition catalogue.
Artists will be responsible for delivery of accepted artworks to Woodmere Art Museum from May 5 – May 14, 2018 by appointment only, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. All artwork must be picked up from September 6 – 10, 2018. All accepted works MUST remain for the duration of the exhibition. Works will be insured from the date of delivery to the date of retrieval. Woodmere is not responsible for any shipping or handling costs. Artwork not retrieved by September 10, 2018 will incur a storage fee of $10.00 per day.
Works eligible for submission are clay, fiber, wood and other craft media, works on paper, paintings, performance, sculpture, prints, installations, photographs, and video.
All work must be exhibit ready.
10 prizes totaling over $2000 will be awarded by the juror.
Artists must currently reside within 50 miles of the Museum. Works by undergraduate students are ineligible for submission. Works made before 2016 will not be considered. Works in the exhibition will NOT be listed for sale. Only artworks that have not been exhibited at Woodmere Art Museum are eligible for submission. Artists submitting must have no relation to Woodmere Art Museum staff or Board of Trustees. Woodmere Art Museum reserves the right to reject any accepted artwork that does not meet the standards for display, eligibility rules listed above, is deemed unsafe, differs from artist's photo(s) and/or description, or for any other reason.
