About the Exhibition

Join Woodmere in celebrating the Woodward family’s history of transformative generosity, which has helped to define the character of Chestnut Hill. In the early decades of the twentieth century, George and Gertrude Woodward recruited Violet Oakley (1874-1961), an artist who advocated for an integration of the arts into all aspects of community life, and her circle of artists, the Red Rose Girls, to live and work in Chestnut Hill. Violet Oakley and the Woodward Family will include portraits by Oakley (1874-1961) and other works related to the Woodwards’ civic involvement.
