Ben Rose, Brooklyn Bridge, New York City

Date
1950s
Medium
Gelatin silver print
Credit Line
Museum purchase, 2013
Dimensions
9 x 46 in.

In order to capture this photograph, Rose used an innovative process on a Cirkut camera of his own invention. A piece of film was wrapped around the inside of the camera, and the motorized camera would rotate and scan the negative within. Angled to show the trajectory of the bridge, the camera showed a 180° perspective of the Brooklyn Bridge. The car pictured on the right is the artist’s own station wagon, which he used to carry his equipment.
