Conceivably local to Woodmere’s own site, Chestnut Hill Near Philadelphia displays a woodland scene bathed in dramatic lighting looking skyward to illustrate an looming storm. Rich orange hues define the dark landscape in contrast to the cool blue-gray sky. The painting suggests either the passage or oncoming shower barely eclipsing the sun, whose light translates onto the water surface and treescape.
