Carpenter’s sculpture is inspired by Black-owned farms she visited during trips through South Carolina and Georgia. William Valerio, Woodmere’s director, describes this sculpture: "There’s something very painterly about the sculpture. Carpenter uses a range of visual tactics within the same work of art: abstract elements slam up against more detailed representations, such as the fork-like tool in Carpenter’s work."
