In From A Peach Orchard, Quita Brodhead abstractly suggests the open landscape of an orchard and applies bright color against a sea of gray. Referring to the teachings of her mentor Arthur B. Carles, Brodhead said, "color was not just a filler, it became the forms that lived and breathed in space." Brodhead first studied with Carles in his 1922 Costume Sketch class at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and then worked with him privately. They enjoyed a close relationship until Carles's death in 1952.
