Andrea Packard, Inheritance
"In both art and nature, I am drawn to spaces that prompt heightened awareness, offer visual journeys of discovery, and invite greater empathy."
Inheritance immerses viewers in thick, rich textures of different densities as yarns, threads, carpeting, rug backings, pastels, and paper are combined to create unexpected resonances: an incomplete quilt, a disassembled coat or sweater, a map, a topographical relief, or an agricultural landscape. The title and familiar intimacy of the materials evoke a sense of familial connections and history.
A graduate of Swarthmore College and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Andrea Packard received an MFA in painting from American University in 1994.
