Alex Kanevsky prepared for this piece by sketching the interior of the South Philadelphia meat locker where a famous scene from Rocky was filmed. The painting, like many of Kanevsky’s works, focuses on layers of paint and texture, in a way that Kanevsky compares to Swiss cheese.

Alex Kanevsky was born in Russia, and studied theoretical mathematics at Vilnius University in Lithuania, coming to the US in the 1980s. He took classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and currently teaches there.
