Looking for You
Paul King uses paint to create tensions -translucence versus opacity and foreground versus background. He scumbles light ochre over the surface, creating a partial barrier to the mysterious space behind. Our eye lingers on the surface until fragments of the background emerge and we are drawn into the webbed darkness beneath.
King attended the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) in the 1970s and went on to study painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for four additional years with artists such as Sidney Goodman, Bruce Samuelson, and Seymour Remenick. He currently teaches at the University of the Arts.
