From the Philadelphia Portfolio

For five decades Dowell, Jr.’s work has explored notions of space and time. He created this early work while teaching at Indiana State University. The artist creates a disoriented point of view, offering a perspective that seems to be above the dramatic amorphous forms—partly organic and partly mechanical—that float in the indeterminate space.
