Samuel Maitin, Reflections on a Painting by a Little Girl

Date
1960
Medium
Etching, aquatint, and engraving
Credit Line
Museum purchase, 1994
Dimensions
11 3/4 x 24 in.

Inspired by a painting completed by Maitin’s young niece, this complex print incorporates four colors and uses multiple printmaking techniques. Here he combines biomorphic forms, including a banana, with simplified lines that suggest a still life arranged on a table. However, the use of scale and the expanse of pink add to the ambiguity of the space.
