Donning a brilliant vermillion dress, Katherine Fussell’s Self Portrait easily captures the attention. In it, she directs a sidelong glance at the viewer. The space behind her exists abstractedly, drifting through colors and in and out of a pattern, as striking lightning from the left -artist’s right- intensified the drama of the work.
