The Dufala Brothers’ often address consumption and sustainability in their work. Their sledgehammer head is a carved piece of anthracite coal, a tribute to their father, who worked in the coal mining industry, earning a living using hammers shaped like this. Although anthracite is one of the hardest types of coal, this sculpted object is effectively useless as a hammer because it is too fragile to strike any hard surface.
