The protagonists of the action television series Starsky and Hutch were two Southern California detectives, David Michael Starsky and Kenneth Richard “Hutch” Hutchinson. Starsky was a US Army veteran from Brooklyn, known for his shrewd demeanor and moodiness, while Hutch had a more cautious and psychological approach. Unlike previous police series, Starsky and Hutch did not hide their brotherly affection with one another, which challenged the emotionally withdrawn masculinity of the 1970s.

Paul Michael Glaser (born 1943) played Starsky in the series and directed several episodes. In addition to being an actor, Glaser is an avid photographer and writes poetry and children’s novels.

David Soul (born 1943), who played Hutch, is an American-British actor and singer. He has starred and co-starred in many film and television shows in a career that spans over fifty years.
