Old Church presents such a painting that a photograph won’t do justice. Its dazzling array of colors, like so many of his other works, present treat for the eyes to behold. A church in Jamestown, Virginia is depicted, walls overrun with ivy and a gnarled tree obscuring building to the right with yellow foliage and hints of Spanish moss. Theel uses the colors at their most vibrant and bold without restraint, making the luminous work feel ethereal, like a dreamscape or vibrant memory.
