Ben Rose, Self-Portrait with Cirkut Camera

Date
1950
Medium
Gelatin silver print
Credit Line
Gift of Kathy and Peter Rose, 2020
Dimensions
7 1/2 x 7 1/2 in.

In this self-portrait, Rose holds the Cirkut camera he invented to make his panoramic photographs such as Brooklyn Bridge, New York City, in Woodmere’s collection. In photographing himself with his camera—the tool of his trade—he follows in the footsteps of many artists and photographers through history who paid homage to their instruments, be they cameras or paintbrushes.

-Teddy Cavanagh, Woodmere Intern 2020
