Nancy Halbert

Artist Statement
"As a choreographer and modern dancer for most of my life, my art focuses on a balance between energy and stillness. I reflect this discord in a gestural, painterly, and contemporary style using a variety of media to create a raw, yet, luminous painting style. I like to draw into paint and experiment with mixing materials such as pencil and thinner or charcoal and oil to create painted collages of varying surfaces. Fabrics may be integrated to provide a sense of place. I look inward to paint my own personal and honest journey merging a sense of abstraction with reality, painting motion to evoke emotion."

"My unique and diverse teaching skills build confidence, expand the students’ imagination and develop critical thinking skills. I give my students responsibility from the beginning to take pride in their assignments and to encourage a sharing of their work with others through valuable critiques. I provide individual attention and accommodations for students with different learning styles."
